A new Arctic when the ice disappears

As the climate changes, the area around the North Pole is not the same as it used to be. The sea of ice, which was previously thick and several years old, has now been replaced by a thin ice cover that emerges in the winter and disappears in the summer.

A new Arctic when the ice disappears

Swedish Radio met with REXSAC researcher Ninis Rosqvist to discuss the Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere released by the IPCC on the 25 of September.

The report presents how climate change affects the seas and the so-called cryosphere, the part of our planet that is covered by ice and snow. However the knowledge is still deficient for the Arctic one of the part of the world where temperatures rise the most. The Arctic is a key region as any changes in the ice cover will have repercussions on the sea level and weather patterns further south.
