Dalarna University College

The Tourism Studies Department at Dalarna University College has on-going research on mining as a form of cultural heritage with relevance to tourism, and its consequent value for regional socio-economic development of peripheral areas in Sweden (Dalarna, Norrbotten) and the high Arctic (notably Svalbard). The Department has a substantial record of innovative and policy-relevant research and teaching that has grown from northern Scandinavia to embrace comparative studies across the Arctic, adding value to regional development in Norden through insights and lessons from further afield. Comparative studies with other parts of the Arctic would exemplify further, how innovations in tourism can support sustainable regional development on these destinations.
