Stockholm University

Stockholm University is one of the world’s top 100 higher education institutes. 70,000 students, 1,800 doctoral students and 5,000 staff are active within the areas of science and human science. Its engagement in REXSAC is led by the Department of Physical Geography and the Department of Political Science. The Department of  Physical Geography is one of northern Europe’s largest geoscience departments, with research focusing on climate change, landscape evolution, terrestrial and hydrological resources, landscape analysis, remote sensing, GIS, and environmental- and resource dynamics. The department is also engaged in the Bolin Centre for Climate Research which is a multi-disciplinary consortium of SU researchers focusing on critical processes in the climate system. The Department of Political Science is engaged in subject areas ranging from Swedish politics to gender and development. To REXSAC it specifically contributes with research about the impacts of extractive activities on the rights and cultural livelihoods of Indigenous communities, and how those communities can affect change through various strategies.
