Book chapter – From dreamland to homeland: a journey towards futures better than pasts

This chapter provides an artists-scholars’ reflection on the experience of and inspiration behind the making of an essayistic documentary for the twenty-first century: Dreamland by Britt Kramvig and Rachel Andersen Gomez (Norway, 2016). Depicting people, places, and events in Sápmi, the film melds past and present. A line from the poem “Dream-Land” (1844) by Edgar Allan Poe inspired the film’s title, signaling the purposeful interweaving of multiple influences, traditions, and paradigms.
